TORONTO, February 22, 2023 (Newswire.com) - Index Biosystems (Index) announced today the formal addition of Dr. David Acheson to the Index team as Senior Advisor, Food Safety.
"BioTags present the opportunity to reduce the scope of recalls and absolve unaffected products from allegations of contamination," says David. "This could open entirely new product categories to recall and contamination insurance." David has more than 40 years of medical and food safety experience in prominent roles with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service before founding The Acheson Group (TAG) in 2013.
With the FDA, David served as the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) Chief Medical Officer; from which he moved to Director of CFSAN's Office of Food Defense, Communication and Emergency Response; and was then appointed as the Assistant and then Associate Commissioner for Foods. David held agency-wide leadership for all food and feed issues, and he developed the 2007 Food Protection Plan, which served as the basis for many of the authorities granted to FDA by the Food Safety Modernization Act.
"Dr. Acheson is a world-renowned expert in food safety and supply chain risk in an evolving regulatory landscape," says Mike Borg, Co-Founder & CEO at Index Biosystems. "His advisory insight will be instrumental for Index as we build our BioTag-backed insurance product to increase the global capacity for product contamination & recall insurance."
